Clients seek art consultants for two main
reasons- the fear of overpaying and the fear of
buying bad art.
However, there are many other concerns that
could be addressed by the prospective collector
under the counsel of the art consultant. These
include how the collector might find the
emerging artists with potential star quality,
track down a particular coveted piece of art, or
know he or she is buying a work that is
authentic. Also, how does a collector gauge the
future value of an artwork once he or she has
bought it, position their investments to stay
ahead of the artist's market curve and go about
trading or exchanging artworks?
From a more far-sighted perspective an art
consultant can assist the collector in
developing their taste in art, passions for a
specific genre or time period and visual
sensibility. The consultant can then devise with
the client a strategy for acquiring a
collection, upgrading or growing their current
collection or shifting their collection’s focus.
